If I were to create a government for my own country, I would choose a dictatorship.

But not the usual kind. I would create a variation called finite dictatorship. In a finite dictatorship, a country elects a dictator, who has the final vote on decisions. While the dictator is the supreme power, he/she does have an Executive Council, a group of highly renowned scholars or outstanding individuals whom the dictator selects to guide him/her on his/her decisions.

Why didn’t I choose democracy? In a democracy, ideas take a long time to become a rule or a law. Too many voices can create confusion, and while I like the philosophy of democracy, sometimes, we need a firm hand to enforce the rules and drive growth. Democracy means that the people elect representatives, and representatives of the winning party select the prime minister from among them. The requirement to get a majority vote before any major decision-making would take a long time because a powerful opposition party can result in endless discussions, wasting time. Thus finite dictatorship would be an efficient alternative.

I chose finite dictatorship, not for glory, power, or bossing people around, but because I want my country to progress quickly. Many dictators have abused their power, but I want to show the world that dictators can use power wisely, too. I wish to break stereotypes about dictators being cruel and harsh. If I were a dictator, I would be firm but gentle; have laws, but not force unreasonable rules down people’s throats. This way, I can create a country that will set an example to the rest of the world,  showing them that maintaining a sustainable, clean, and

progressive environment is possible.

Some of my laws:

EDUCATION

  • Compulsory education for all children over the age of 4 (funds will be provided to families under the poverty line)

ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS

  • Keep all roads clean- (garbage to be thrown in dustbins only)

  • Heavy fines to be paid for spitting gum, or paan on the road, throwing garbage into water-bodies or roads, poaching, etc.

  • Mandatory solar panels for apartments and major industries

SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY

  • Everyone should serve the country- either in the army, healthcare, education or infrastructure segments after college/university.

TRAFFIC RULES

  • Following traffic rules is mandatory.

  • Loss of driving license for the very first instance of drunk driving.

CRIME

  • Murderers’ assets will be redistributed to their victims’ families or destroyed.

Some of my taxes:

  • All goods and services produced in the country will be taxed minimally, but imported goods will be taxed more.

  • Flat tax system

  • Taxes to be paid by everyone as per their income.

Some of my services:

  • Free healthcare

  • Internet and library access for all homes (funds will be allocated to this as well)

  • Judicial rights- speedy trials

  • Hospitality and Tourism

  • Support for Arts, Literary and Cultural activities.

I think my country would benefit from these laws, and I feel that this variation would create more gentle and thoughtful leaders compared to full dictators.
